When you go out shopping for your engagement ring, you don’t have to be swayed by convention and opt for the standard solitaire diamond ring. There are many more unusual engagement rings on the market, which are still incredibly beautiful, but they allow you to break away from tradition, and wear something which better reflects your own personality and style. And because these engagement rings are so different, people will still be commenting on them years into the future, rather than just saying how beautiful they are on the day you get engaged, only to be forgotten and ignored forever afterwards. There are hundreds of wonderful designs these days which offer something different, whether it is unusual gemstones or unconventional ring settings. Here’s a few ring ideas to get you started in your search:
Gemstone Engagement Rings – apart from the standard diamonds, there are several other gemstones which look great on engagement rings. Many couples are turning towards more colorful stones these days with the traditional ruby (which was used extensively for engagement rings in the past), sapphire, and the more unusual aquamarine and amethyst. Many of these precious and semi-precious stones are cheaper than diamond, so they offer a good alternative in tough economic times. They also tend to have special meanings ascribed to them, which can add to their appeal for some couples.
Rare Gemstone Rings - opting for an engagement ring which contains one of the very rare gemstones such as tanzanite, zultanite, or alexandrite, will certainly provide you with a wow factor, and also something to spark conversations when other people see the ring. You might be asked to tell the story of the gemstone, as many people will not have heard of these unusual gems, and will of course, probably never have seen one before. This is definitely a good choice if you want something that is not mass produced for the large jewelry superstores.
Cultural Engagement Rings – for a more unusual idea, it is probably worth looking for one of the cultural rings. For example there are lots of rings which have existed for a very long time, having been passed down the generations. A good example is the Russian catholic trinity rings, which would be great as engagement rings. These have become more and more popular over the last few years, so you might need to rush to get one, but they are available in a range of different colors of metal, and in a variety of styles.
Fancy Diamond Rings - fancy diamond rings contain colored diamonds rather than the more usual colorless stones we normally expect to see. They tend to be far more expensive as they are rarer, and the people who are normally seen wearing them are the celebrities. So Katherine McPhee, for example, has a fancy diamond ring containing pink and yellow gems, and Mariah Carey has one with a large pink central diamond surrounded by lots of smaller deeper pink ones.
One of the best places to start, if you are going to look for an unusual engagement ring, is the Internet. There are loads of great online stores which will have a collection of rings that will be very tempting. A word of caution though, is that you should always check that the store is reputable before buying from them. What you should find on some of these stores is the kind of rare gemstone rings already mentioned, but the other thing to think about is what metal you want the band to be made out of. The usual metals are platinum, yellow gold and white gold, but rose gold is starting to make something of a comeback, since Tom Cruise bought Katie Holmes a ring made from platinum and rose gold!
Making a decision to opt for unusual engagement rings is ideal because it enables you to exercise you own sense of personal style rather than unthinkingly conforming to what other people say you should wear, and so it allows you to exude individuality.

A ring holder can be very useful especially if your method of storing your rings is to toss them into a jewelry box. This can be an okay solution but once you start putting more and more items in there, finding things can be difficult especially smaller items such as rings. This is where ring holders can help. These holders can vary in design and style but the main purpose is to help you keep your jewelry a bit more organized. This will help you to not only store but to retrieve your rings more quickly. Not only that, using these holders will help to keep your room or vanity desk more organized.
In the world of ring holders, you will have a lot to choose from. From animals to shapes and abstract designs, there is something for just about everyone. Don’t think about these holders as something that has to be plain and boring such as a box or a display board with slots to put your rings in. With all of the different creative designs that you have, you can have fun choosing different, crazy designs. Among some of the popular ones are the holders that are created in a shape of animals such as an elephant. You can use different holders to help you decorate your jewelry table up a bit better.
The end result that you want when purchasing one of these holders is to have more convenience. Instead of digging through your box of jewelry to find the right ring for the night, you can simply reach over to that little elephant and take the ring from its trunk and presto. When you get home, just stick it back. If you have a lot of rings, then you might want to buy something that will hold more instead of getting a dozen of these holders. Some will hold more than others though. These can be bought online.

Sophisticated. Fearless. Competitive. These are the three words that fit a modern woman. She is sophisticated in her tastes, and never settles for the plain and substandard. She is fearless because she is not afraid to dream, and to take risks. She is competitive because she never let anyone put her down and she is confident that she can do what others can – even better. And, so for a modern woman, what is more fitting for her is a pair of upscale jewelry that makes a statement of her beauty than a pair of emerald and amethyst earrings?
The amethyst earrings denote royalty and beauty, and for a modern day woman, she is a royalty in her own right. She reigns in her work because she is intelligent. She reigns in her home because she never fails to take care of the ones she loves. That is why a perfect present for a woman can be amethyst earrings – encased in a silver hoop, a simple yet elegant stud or the more extravagant amethyst chandelier earrings. The amethyst earrings, best worn with purple and violet gowns, or the complimentary colors of violet, are a perfect pair of earrings to wear in upscale work parties or during an executive meeting.
On the other hand, if violet is not your color, why not try the gleaming green emerald earrings. A constant favorite of the modern day royalties, the emerald projects a very upscale look. The emerald earrings particularly go well on a fair skin that connotes vitality and charisma.
The emerald stone goes well on all types of earrings – from chunky danglers to the simple studs. What is more interesting about emerald stud earrings is that you do not to wear a gown or an expensive dress to carry emerald earrings since they can be carried with the same poise and grace just on a casual wear, especially when worn as studs or hoops.
The yellow gold is the metal ideally paired with emeralds. The yellow gold makes the emerald stone look mystic and this blend throws an enchanting effect on the wearer’s face, making it appear splendid and filled with mystery.
The amethyst and emerald earrings is the best pair of earrings for the modern woman to wear – royal, sophisticated yet versatile.
